So that basically will put it with the Sportage on price for less power and options, they better rethink that strategy. I mean if anyone does a little research they are going to find a better value and deal with that mark up.
A dealer here in Central Texas was putting a $5000 markup on the Seltos. After I said "I'll just go shop a Mazda or a Subaru" they waived the markup. I think some dealerships are seeing how popular the Telluride is and they assume the Seltos will be just as popular.I am hearing from dealers that they are marking up Seltos $1995 over MSRP. (One salesman said his GM gave him permission to wave that)
Wondering how many would pay that just to be the "first on the block" to have a Seltos?
Yeah, after that one dealer who waived the markup without me even asking, I haven't heard it from anyone else. I really think the markup is dead.A dealer here in Central Texas was putting a $5000 markup on the Seltos. After I said "I'll just go shop a Mazda or a Subaru" they waived the markup. While I get it that Kia/Hyundai are doing great things as of late with the popularity of their models, they are still not at Honda‘s and Toyota’s level yet to charge markup above MSRP and higher interest rates. Otherwise, consumers may walk away and shop elsewhere like Mazda, Subaru, Nissan and the Honda / Toyota (most popular ones). Besides, the novelty and excitement wears off easily after a few months esp when they start to get a ton of inventory and not a lot of movement in dealer lots...Yeah, after that one dealer who waived the markup without me even asking, I haven't heard it from anyone else. For sure I would never pay one.
Exactly. I started looking at the Seltos' a couple weeks ago and all I heard was "These are going to sell before they even get to the dealership." Those same cars are now just sitting around waiting to be sold. While I get it that Kia/Hyundai are doing great things as of late with the popularity of their models, they are still not at Honda‘s and Toyota’s level yet to charge markup above MSRP and higher interest rates. Hi Whiteout,Dealers here are doing a $3k markup. Each dealer received 3-5 cars, so far only a few have sold. Most are sitting on the lot and not selling w/ markup.
SeattleHi Whiteout,
Which city is this?
Where do you live?Purchased my Seltos S Saturday, I think this happened to me. I must have been brain dead.
How is the markup listed? Do they give it some fancy name so you might not realize it has been marked up? I am checking on the Kirkland website and not seeing anything.Seattle
I know....I positively hate those supplemental stickers that come with all new cars it seems. I have talked to a couple of salesmen who said they would work with me on that but I haven't fully tested their resolve because I am not ready to buy yet.Easiest way would be to price the car on the kia build site and if you see a bunch more added that usually is the tip off. Also you may see added dealer items list where they add a bunch of stuff just to increase the mark up like alarm and tinted etc. See below this is an example of adding a few thousand more for bs stuff that you can get at a fraction of the cost. I love the spare tire one when the it comes with it. They will charge you 300 bucks for a little caution sign to put up in the road. Lol GPS tracker is on amazon for like 78 bucks.![]()

Well, my Seltos was listed at approx. $25,600 not exact. But the additional dealer added about $4000 in ridiculous add on's such as, acorn protection, wind & rain protection (not paint protection), 1st oil change is free, big deal. They did state if I kept getting my service there, I have state inspections for as long as I have the car. Pretty good, but $4000 worth? Maybe I should attach a photo of it. Many of you will have a good laugh. As I stated I must have been brain dead for not making them remove these charges. How is the markup listed? Yep.....I really hate those extras listed on the supplemental stickers. I would only buy this car if that was at least greatly reduced. But this is not a markup because of car popularity..... they put that nonsense on ALL new cars.Well, my Seltos was listed at approx. $25,600 not exact.
