With the new Hyundai Creta coming soon, here's an interesting article that looks at what the Creta could look like compared to the Seltos.
New Hyundai Creta will make use of Seltos' platform and its engine options. The SUV is already being tested in India and is likely to be revealed at Auto Expo 2020.
If you are in the market for a compact SUV, then you are most likely to be impressed by the Kia Seltos. This South Korean SUV sports contemporary looks, packs a long list of features, and is offered with three BS-6 compliant engines, each with a choice between manual and automatic transmission. All these have helped Seltos dethrone Hyundai Creta, which, for long, held the title of the bestselling vehicle in the segment. So, if it is a new compact SUV that you are interested in buying, then there'sa good chance that the Kia Seltos is on your shortlist. But Hyundai is busy working on the next-generation model of the Creta, which is expected to be launched in the first few months of 2020. It will be the second-generation model of the SUV and will come sporting new design, modern gadgetry, and new powertrains.
Now, if you are wondering whether you should buy the Seltos or wait for the new Creta, then here's something to help you make an informed decision.
New Hyundai Creta: Design
New Hyundai Creta will get a split headlamp setup, something which we have already seen on the Venue though the shape of the main headlight unit will resemble that seen on the Palisade SUV. The 2020 Creta will also get a new cascading grille, new triangular LED tail lights joined by an LED strip, and different design for the tailgate. Complementing the overall aesthetics will be a new set of alloy wheels and roof-rails. And since the 2020 Creta will be based on Seltos' platform, it is likely to grow in width, thereby offering more space for the occupants.
New Hyundai Creta: Interior and features
2020 Hyundai Creta's cabin will sport a brand new layout, probably with an all-black theme. The AC vents will get an octagonal design surrounded by chrome edges. The SUV will also come equipped with a vertical touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and BlueLink infotainment system. This is expected to be the largest in the segment. For reference, MG Hector's 10.4-inch infotainment screen is currently the biggest in the segment. Besides all these changes, the new Creta will also get a fully digital instrument panel, at least on the top-end trim, automatic climate control system, sunroof, etc.
New Hyundai Creta: Specs
New Hyundai Creta will ditch its existing range of engines in favour of Kia Seltos' BS 6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units. Both these engines will be offered with a choice between manual and automatic gearbox. However, we aren't sure if Seltos' 1.4-litre turbocharged engine will be made available on the new Creta but if that happens then it will be offered with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission currently being offered with the Venue.
New Hyundai Creta: India launch and expected price
New Hyundai Creta's India launch is expected to take place by early 2020 and the SUV will likely break covers at the Auto Expo 2020. When launched, the new Creta's range is expected to start from around ₹9.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh in order to take on the Seltos, which starts from ₹9.69 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
So, the 2020 Hyundai Creta will be an all-new model underpinned by a different platform and will sport a more contemporary exterior design. It is also expected to come equipped with new features and will be powered by Seltos' engines. All this is likely to make the competition tougher between the two South Korean SUVs. The rest of the details about the SUV will be revealed at the Auto Expo 2020, which is scheduled to take place from 7 February, 2020 to 12 February, 2020. But in the meanwhile, we'd love to know whether you'd prefer waiting for the new Creta or if you'd rather put your money on the Kia Seltos. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
