The new Kia Seltos brings a bold new style, assertiveness, and cutting-edge technology and safety features to the popular global compact SUV segment.
Kia revealed the Seltos for the first time globally this past June at a special event in Delhi, India.
During the Seltos’ unveiling, Han-Woo Park, President and CEO, Kia Motors Corporation, commented: “The Seltos is an important car for Kia as it will play a central role in the expansion of our global footprint, and especially in a priority market like India. We’ve adapted our strengths in design, quality and technology to fulfil the needs of customers in the Indian market.”
“Seltos is aimed at youthful, tech-savvy buyers and is packed full of our most cutting-edge technology and safety equipment. The world premiere is a significant milestone for Kia as it shows our commitment to the Indian market – and this is just the beginning. We have big plans for Kia in this wonderful country.”
The Seltos offers “distinctive exterior design details, such as its long hood, a strong, character line on the front bumper, and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork. It also sports Kia’s wide ‘tiger nose grille’. Its robust shoulder line and glasshouse shape, which tapers towards the rear of the car, lends the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness. The rear bumper with a metallic muffler effect accentuates this dynamic appearance.”
The interior of the Seltos is designed “with high-quality, futuristic materials. Aimed at youthful, tech-savvy buyers, the cabin is characterized by broad, sweeping shapes and highly technical details.” “Equipped with a range of technologies to maximize convenience, connectivity and ease of use, the bold design of the cabin incorporates a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Sound Mood Lighting.”
The Seltos will initially be on sale in South Korea and in India.
In South Korea the Seltos has officially arrived in showrooms across the country and has a starting price of around 19.3 million won ($16,000 USD) and goes up to 26 million won depending on options ($22,000 USD). Kia has received pre-orders for 5,100 Seltos models as of Thursday (July 18, 2019).
In India the Seltos is expected to launch on August 22, 2019. Pre-orders are open online and are being accepted for a token amount of Rs 25,000 ($363 USD). Kia Motors India revealed the Seltos received 6,046 bookings on the first day.
Depending on where you look the price range is expected to be between Rs 10-17 lakh (ex-showroom), which is roughly $14,375.00 to $24,453.65 USD.
When bookings started in India, Manohar Bhat, Vice President and Head - Sales and Marketing, Kia Motors India said, "The Kia Seltos has been built from ground-up, keeping Indian customers in mind and is equipped to redefine the segment. I am proud of the hard-work and dedication put in by all our team in the development of the Seltos, and that has paid off in the way the car has come about to be. We are confident that the customers will be equally delighted by the specifications combination and our widespread network of 265 touch points in 160 cities that will instil confidence and recognition of the brand. We can't wait for India to experience the stylish Seltos."
As far as if/when the North American market can expect to see the Seltos, Kia hasn’t made an official announcement yet. But they have said the Seltos “is due on sale in global markets from the second half of 2019.”
