After many miles of trying to pinpoint an annoying on-and-off rattle, I have finally found where the rattle is coming from.

My rattle is coming from the front dash. Specifically the two little buttons/caps that are on the front dash speaker grill just below the windshield. Both of these caps have a little play to them, and the rattle stops for awhile if you apply some pressure to them.

I was wondering if anybody had any experience or ideas in fixing this. Also wondering if anyone has experience removing this front speaker grill and/or these two caps.

Thanks

Try pulling those plugs/caps out, sticking a bit of Blu-tack on them, then popping them back in. Problem solved..? :)

This is likely the route I will take. Just wondering if those caps come out easily. How to remove them without breaking anything?
I have a similar rattle, but didn’t try putting pressure on the caps…may have to check next time I hear it. Mine sounded like a wire or cable underneath rattling against the underside of the dash top. Let us know what you figure out for solutions and/or disassembly. (If you try)
I will do likewise if I feel bold enough to try taking it apart.

I was extremely convinced that it was a wire under the dash as well. Try putting some pressure on that grill in the center of your dash. Then try applying pressure to the caps specifically.

Fair comment, and wise to be careful. However, if they don't unscrew, then the'd have to be a plug type of thing that presses in - and should, if levered from under an edge, pop out. Best of luck.

Checked mine today while driving with the rattle…mine isn’t coming from those…definitely something underneath. May have to try popping that panel to have a look as well…

Below video shows you whats under that grill. Plenty of loose wires that could be culprits. Unfortunately video doesn't cover taking the grill off.

I still think the center speaker is stupid.

Shows how it snaps back in and had a good shot of the backside. It just pops up from the front edge closest to the driver/passenger. Pretty easy…

It also suggests that it is not those two knobs that Stuart thought were what was rattling, but that grill vibrating against something beneath those knobs,,?
