My 2021 SX‘s windshield is cracked. I can’t remember being hit with a flying debris or stone from trucks. I called KIA service and the tech says it is not covered even though the SX is only 5 months old. So I have to deal with my insurance.

Hope you have a low deductible on glass coverage.. I went through this (and posted a thread here) a couple months ago. Total headache

I have Statefarm and they don’t have specific for glass coverage. They have “Comprehensive“ coverage with a deductible. I chose a high deductible so my premium is lower. I have already called my agent and she said a Safelite tech will be calling me soon.

Mine too, within a three hour period on the interstate, the chip grew from a little dot to a crack on three directions from the dot. 6” on each direction of the crack. I was able to track the progress of the crack from my dash camera footage.

Looks like KIA windshields do not hold up well to chips. I had a vehicle that got hit on the windshield with a stone that flew off a bulldozer carrier. It did not develop a crack like what happened to my Seltos so I was able to research on how to fix it. I was able to fix it.

yes, I saw the thread you started. It seems like there are a few of us Seltos owners having windshield issues.

Gotcha. Keep us posted on the progress. I’m curious as to whether or not your forward camera recalibration will work with the Safelite replacement glass. I was forced into the OEM glass after the computer wouldn’t work for them.

I haven’t heard from a Safelite tech yet. I will demand OEM. Thanks.

Got a call from Safelite this morning. I have an appointment for OEM windshield replacement on Wednesday first thing in the morning. Zero deductible wit Statefarm insurance. We’ll see how it goes. I have attached a picture of the cracks in three directions.

Bummer. Do you have a pic without the red squigles in the middle? Cant see by that if there is an impact spot.

Yes, there is an impact spot on where I drew circles on the above picture. But we don’t know when that impact happened! During my six hour drive that hot sunny 104°F day, we did not notice/hear an impact from debris or stone. I will do a video with something at the other side of the glass so the crack and chip will show clearly.

the above picture was taken from the inside of my Seltos. The attached video was taken from the outside in my garage. For some reason, I can’t attach a video file in this forum so here’s the link.

Shame it broke as iv had a number of hits on mine from trucks here on our narrow roads and I cant see where they hit. Id rate this windscreen on mine tougher than the one I had on my Nissan 4wd. Every hit on that thing showed impact chips and one a repairable bullseye. Maybe too iv just been lucky with my Seltos. Trucks are a real issue here so much that on some roads when I see them coming bringing up a cloud of debri behind them I pull over and wait. Most are huge Double Bs that bring a gale force of wind along with them propelling everything towards you at speed. The amount of them on the road got worse after covid hit so I got full windscreen cover added to the insurance.
Hey you probably got hit at the same time when some other noise distracted you.
Again sorry to hear you have to get a new one so early into having got your car. Here's hoping it all goes well. (y)

Yeah, thanks. The contributing factor was the sustained 104°F temperature for six hours then hitting a downpour which brought the temperature quickly to 86°F.
Correct.I ordered a VW GTI towards the end of a winter and it came by ship from Mexico to eastern Canada. It arrived with stress crack in the windshield. The VW tech from their head office said it was caused by the temp changes along the way.

Take it to a good auto glass place and have them verify that no object caused the windshield to crack. Get good documentation and take it to the dealer

No need to take it to a glass place to have them verify. When we got home that day, I inspected the cracks and they started from an impact spot. A stone must have chipped it during my 3,600 mile round trip late April to early May.

It is best to have it filled because when it turns cold, the crack will grow. Just saying...plus it doesn't cost anything
