Aftermarket Wheels - Looking for Your Opinions

2434 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Rigle
Living in Wisconsin, I don't trust that the factory Kumho Majesty 9 tires will cut it for my 35 mile commute to work every day. I've ordered a set of winter tires to put on my factory wheels which will now be for winter use only. I've had this particular winter tire - on a FWD sedan - so I'm sure they'll be even better on my AWD Seltos.

Anyway, I'm looking for input regarding the wheels I'm looking at for Spring-Fall use. These are Drag DR19s from Discount Tire. The center of the wheel is white with a machined, almost chrome lip around the outside. Let me know what you think below!

Well if you’re looking for personal opinions, I would lean further towards something like an Enkei EDR9 in silver or maybe a PX-10 in gunmetal. The Drag wheel would be a little too much white for me (and I’m not a huge chrome fan)

I also like the Sparco Terra but that might be an acquired taste

My commute is 30 miles. Here in Maine, we have some of the worst winter driving conditions. Last year was my first winter with my Seltos and it performed extremely well even with the stock Kumho tires. However, I agree that you can never be too safe, and I would get some winter tires if I could afford to.

Anyway, to offer my opinion, I would pass on the look of the tires pictured above. They appear rather dated to me and don’t fit the personality of the Seltos. Something like this would be sweet!

Or these as an all gloss black alternative. All gloss black wheels look great on white vehicles like yours particularly IMO because the contrast is so eye catching. I would have a very hard time deciding between these two options.

Growing up I was a huge fan of the BBS "RS" design wheels, but could never afford them. I looked into them last week and - no surprise - they're still more than what I'm willing to spend. I still really like that BBS design and these Drag DR19s resemble them quite a bit. They're just white instead of gold. While I'm definitely not rock solid on getting them, they're high on my list.

Your choices are a perfect example of differing tastes and why people setup and customize their vehicles differently. I like the first design's overall concept: black inside with machined face, but I don't like directional wheels. One side looks great. Makes the vehicle look like it's going fast while standing still, while the opposite side - with the wheels "pointing" backwards - doesn't look right to me. As far as the second design goes... that's a definite no from me. I can't do black wheels. They just look "unfinished" to me... like the color, machining, or chrome was forgotten. I can't shake that feeling. Even when I see all these manufacturers coming out with "Nightfall", "Midnight", "Blackout", "Onyx", "Nightshade", etc... I just can't get into them. Personal preference, right? 🤷‍♂️

The DR19s are available in a variety of colors. The other I like is this one. Black lip with machined center. I think this would contrast nicely on my white Seltos, too.

Another brand I like is Drag Concepts. They make some wheels with a red "undercut" stripe (2 varieties pictured below). I like this because my plan is to paint my brake calipers red, so I feel that one of these might tie in nicely.

I have all winter to look as my winter tires were just mounted on my stock wheels today. I'll update this thread when I decide what I'm getting.

(My coworker was still balancing the last wheel when I took this.)

Cheers! ✌

Well my opinion is that the stock SX wheels look great. I even had people come up and say so. Any of the above examples are either Equal to or less attractive, my opinion. I especially like the red trim around the center. So PLEASE don't purchase a Black wheels. Any time I see Black wheels looks like an older car who lost there hub caps, lol.

Personal preference for sure…I really like black wheels on basically any car! At the same time I am a big fan of the wheels that come with the SX. They are quite original, have a premium look, and compliment the Seltos nicely.

Of the 3 wheels you posted above:

#1: Hard pass for me. It looks like you are trying too hard and there is way too much going on. People would look at the wheels rather than the car as a whole.

#2: Definitely the pick of the 3 hands down. The Seltos is built around square bold/boxy lines as opposed to an SUV that looks like a bubble such as the current Ford Escape. Much like the wheels that come on the Seltos, any replacement wheels have to be geometric as well to keep the same design language.

#3: Definitely better than #1 for me, but again, I don’t think there is any room for curves in this case as they will fight with the overall design of the Seltos.

I know I sound opinionated but I think that is what you are looking for…haha! Option #2 would be a very solid choice!

I would stay away from drag wheels. I had them before it doesn't take much to bend or crack them.

Something flow formed will be much stonger than cast wheels.

I just ordered these for my white SX yesterday.

I'm hoping they sit very flush with the fenders with this size.
