I’m not overly impressed thus far with the remote start feature for purposes of heating up my car. The range itself is also quite short. Anyway, I can’t seem to get it to run past 10 minutes, which does virtually nothing. Then I have to remember to go back every 10 minutes while I’m getting ready for work to make it go another cycle or 2. I also have to remember to turn the heat and fan way up every time I shut off my car in preparation for remote start the next morning.

The UVO app is another option, but it also only cycles for 10 minutes. I can control the climate though so that is a plus...I guess. My Fusion would default to high heat with defrost, turn on my heated seats, and steering wheel (which this should have)- and run for 30 minutes- all with one press of the key fob button.

Is there something I am missing with the remote start that may help? At this point, it’s just easier to go out and physically start my car so it will run for 30 minutes and actually heat up and be done with it. Of course this renders the remote start feature rather useless.

I have been using it in the mornings when I get ready for work. So far it's not been extremely cold, so the short time im using it is ok. My issue with it is...if I open the passenger door first, then the driver door, it's been shutting off even if only on a short short time.

Yeah, I think the remote start needs some refinement to say the least, or it’s just not really geared toward cold climates. It works fine for temperate climate conditions. Have you only been able to obtain 10 minute cycles as well?

Yeah, the longest one I've had was 10 minutes. Leaving work i thought I'd have the car toasty for the ride home. Started it 15 minutes early, came out with 5 minutes left (or I thought) and the car had shut off.

Yup, I know you can adjust the time that you can leave the car idling with 30 minutes being the maximum time- that is the setting I have mine at. Too bad it doesn’t transfer over to remote start mode- nor do I see an option to adjust that.

I see you live in Illinois so you will certainly be battling really cold temps as well soon. It hasn’t gotten too bad yet here in Maine, but we had a few 30 degree mornings and the 10 minutes did next to nothing with heat and fan maxed out. I find the heat takes a bit longer to ramp up than what I am used to as well anyway. However, I just came out of a Fusion that had exceptional heat and a/c output, and overall- heating up an SUV with the larger interior space compared to a sedan is a different ballgame.

We've had a few days where it's been lapping the edge of 30's, so I'm not looking forward to the lower numbers or negatives. Definitely wishing for a longer run time for those days...

I also came from a 2013 soul with no remote start, but would heat up like a toaster in a very short time.

On a better note, I cracked open the manual and found out you have to start the car (key in ignition set to on) within 30 seconds (50 seconds for trunk) or the car shuts off. Who would have thought...

You mean you have to get in your car and put the key in your ignition within 30 seconds after you engage the remote start or your car turns off? Maybe I’m not sure what you mean exactly...haha

I have the push button start in the SX model..🤷‍♂️

Maybe I should actually open the manual myself at some point, but over the course of 2 months, I am pretty sure I have discovered all setting options available. I think we are stuck with the 10 minute remote start intervals either way:confused:

Sorry, after the car has started (via remote) and I open the car door to get in, I have 30 seconds from that point to put the key in and turn to start. At least I found out it's not broke. I have the S turbo model.

I also feel we are stuck with the 10 minute setting.

Oh, gotcha! I haven’t discovered that quirk yet. Once I get in my car after remote starting it, I have always just fired it up. I suppose it would shut off on us either way though since we only have 10 minutes from the time it was initiated

Oh well,,

With the last update to the UVO app, there is a customer setting for climate. Although climate in Central CA is likely warmer than your neck of he woods, I have it set to highest heated seat setting with 80 temp. Ten minutes seems to be a good start. Just gotta remember to time it right!

Yes, I actually used the app today after work to heat up my car with the custom setting, and it worked out quite well with running 2 cycles. For some reason, I wasn’t that thrilled with it the first time I used the UVO app. Probably because the car I just came out of did everything I need for winter starts with one touch from the key fob. Once I get into the habit of using my phone to start my car, I may actually learn to like it!

OK, so now I have used the UVO app quite a bit to preheat my car. I have used the preset 75 degree option with defrost, and the custom setting at 80 degrees with defrost. A few times I have walked out to get in my car while it’s still remote start mode, and the display on my climate control screen is completely blank/dark. Other times not....very weird.

Also, both of those modes result in my A/C button being illuminated...which also strikes me as being odd. Anyone else experiencing these quirks?

haven't experienced this yet. I've been working form home all this week and haven't had to venture out. Tomorrow will be my list trip to market. I'll leave a little earlier than normal to test the settings and see what happens.

I’d also like to know how to set the run time on the remote start if possible.

The A/C actually helps to defrost your window faster. I never knew A/C did that until recently when it went in my truck.

Hmm..I suppose the A/C must be part of the all defrost option as part of the app even for heating up the car.

I don’t know, now that temps are in the 20’s (F) I’m not having much luck with UVO start or key fob remote start. Even when I leave my car with a high fan speed- it always runs low when I use the fob or EVO. Maybe I have to leave my actual climate control set on high? I will try that next I suppose..

Overall, it has been relatively useless as I still have to run 3 cycles to make it even slightly effective. It’s annoying to have to remember to keep setting it every 10 minutes while trying to get ready for work. This morning I didn’t want to deal with it so I just went out and started my car and let it run for 30 minutes.

This is the first time I have had a remote start feature that is less convenient than going outside and just starting your car and being done with it. I wonder if all KIA’s remote starts are like this?

I only remote start for the 30 seconds or so that is optimal before driving away which warms the car quicker anyway. Once I get in the display warns me that the engine will shut off in 29 minutes lol. I often wonder why anyone would subject their engine to that on purpose.
I’ll also add that it works better than some other factory ones I’ve tried, especially VW. I’ll use it when leaving a building where I can see the car in the parking lot and I’m actually impressed with the range as well as the simplicity.
So I start the car from the house, get in the car, set heated seats and steering wheel if needed, and drive away. Within minutes it’s nice and toasty. I live in Alberta.

Trust me, I get it. Nothing worse than getting into a cold car and having to drive away like that. How much gas do you waste doing that though?
I don’t really know how much gas I utilize by preheating my car. I have always done it with or without a remote start feature. It’s miserable enough going to work, so having a warm car makes my morning much more pleasant than the alternative.
