Anyone have a block heater installed? It's going to get to - 22F this week where I live. It can go down to -38F. I've looked at oil pan heaters as an alternative. I've always used a block heater without issues. I owned a F150 that was recalled twice for block heater caused fires. There are always news stories of that brand new car burning up, one just happened in my town two weeks ago. But, the thought of starting up a 1.6T GDI at -38F doesn't make mew feel good either. I used to have a Jeep, put a top synthetic oil in but if it wasn't plugged in for winter starts, it would groan and whine like a sewing machine tearing itself apart.

Yeah, the dealers are going to install it, that’s all I added. I opted out of any dealer add-on packages, usually those are a complete rip off. There’s a dealership in my town where they have mandatory block heater, car mats, theft etching and under coating for $1500. They put all that on pre-sale. I like buying at the Kia dealership because they don’t pull that crap.

Very much the standard here in the prairies...interestingly enough, my dealer also sold vehicles with a $1500 "dealer installed" Prairie package that includes block heater, winter mats, mud guards, paint protection, etc...the interesting part is this is a photo of my vehicle the day it came off the truck and arrived
at the dealership...it had not been PDI'd at this point, you can still see the clear shipping wrap on the hood and the door bumpers are still on. You can clearly see the block heater flip up connector in the grille area (circled in red), which leaves me to wonder where and when it was actually installed?
