Fuel economy

Somewhere way back, SCHS posted about finding quite a discrepancy between the car's claimed average fuel consumption, and what he found by actual measurement. I found this a bit of a challenge, so started doing the same. Thus far, over just two tank fill-ups to the kick-off point, zeroing the trip meter each time, mine has averaged out at an actual 9.2 L/100Km, against the car computer's claim of 8.2 L/100Km.

Now while not spot on, I never expected it would be, but it's not too bad if it is only optimistic to the tune of 1 extra litre of fuel consumed over 100km..?
However, to be fair, I also do a lot of shortish trips and most of my distance covered is on roads with speed zones between 40kph and 80kph, with lots of roundabouts, and we only occasionally get off the island and onto freeway type roads of up to 110kph. So I wasn't expecting spectacular figures. Anyone else checked..? SCHS, any further progress figures..?

Ok, final update. Less freeway driving this time than last tankful, so predictably a bit poorer economy, this time computer said 8.7 L/100km, the actual was 9.6. So the car always seems to be optimistic by about 1.0L/100km. The consistency of this error still makes me wonder if it is at least in part due to the optimistic speedo reading, (therefore distance also affected), which reads consistently 4kph over the real kph, as per several GPS checks. I still think I'll get a size larger tyre when I have to get new tyres, with the slightly larger diameter due to the increase in tyre wall size hopefully getting the speedo closer to actual, and an improvement in economy as well - with the added bonus of a slightly softer/quieter ride as well. The standard Kumhos are not great anyway. We'll see...Suggestions re tyre choice welcome... :)
Canadian Spec Seltos SX.
On that whole reflection of the mph/kph being out of sync with the actual speed, with my Winter Tires (brought over from my last vehicle, they just happened to be in the owners manual as allowable for size), comparing against a GPS speedmeter at 100 kph. 205/60r16 were out by 2 kph with 102kph in the HUD being actual 100kph. The factory SX wheels on the other hand, 235/45r18 are pretty much dead on 100kph = 100kph.

That's interesting, SHCS, as here in Aus, no under-read is allowed by law, so clearly the mnfr does not trust its read-outs enough to risk under-read, so for our market, plays safe with that fixed 4kph over-read. So here, HUD 100kph = GPS accurate 96kph. Canada is clearly a bit less obsessive. Our tyre size is exactly the same as yours.
