Hi guys. Just recently I have had this issue 3 times.
Im feeling the Seltos is a problem child really. Knocking seats, weird idle now n then a no power Cruise issue and now this.
Its an IVT/CVT. 3 occasions I got in, started up. Twice it had been driven for over 80ks this was on a cold start. Put into reverse and no engagement, foot on the accelerator, and yes hand brake as released, wont move and the rpm wont go over 1000rpm no matter what. Put it in Drive and the same thing, wont rev and wont move. You have to turn the engine off, restart then its ok.
Im a fair drive from the dealer and dont have long to take it for the free first service check and of course will raise the issues. But sheesh, im not too impressed right now with this trans issue. Oh and the Cruise issue. Have it set on say 100k, use the brake then hit resume and all I get is no power, zero response from the accelerator. Never had a car ever with these multiple ussues.
Sorry but 🍋 lemon comes to mind.
Update. November 2.
It now has starting issues. Battery is all good. Cranks but doesnt even look like firing up. Takes a few goes and when it does it just revs at 500 rpm and is hesitant to accelerate. Was out fishing and was lucky to get home. Holiday weekend here with nothing open till the 4th. So have to wait till then to ring a dealer and hope that when they say they can get it in that 1 it starts, and 2 makes the 140 km drive there.

My Seltos Ex Premium with 2900 km (Canada) is getting the transmission replaced right now. I am hearing this is not a rare occurrence.

That sucks. I have to wait till it either fails or the issue shows up when the do a diagnostic. Its no use me doing one because it has to happen at the dealership. You can show them videos of it too but it doesnt matter. If it doesn't happen there with them they cant do anything.
Hope you get it fixed soon.

If you feel it's the transmission go in there armed with all these other cases. No engine light came on and uvo said all systems normal. The serviceman said he took it on the highway and around the lot and said it felt fine. He asked me to describe again what happened and how the car felt then suggested to drive my car home that night and return it in the morning. 150 kms roundtrip. In the morning he called to say the car started acting up at 20kms and the engine light finally came on the next morning on his way back to the shop. The code was something to do with a piston. Be nice but insist.

If you are having this problem and are having issues with the dealer addressing it, research the lemon law in your state. Their inaction does not exclude your event from being an event. When it happens again take it in. Once you rack up the required go backs, contact Kia and tell them this has been a reoccurring issue and you have not been satisfied with the service given. Offer them one more chance to fix it and notify them you will exercise your rights under the lemon law if they fail to fix the issue.
