Here we go guys.
After being fobbed off by Kia here I contacted one of the most respected car expert writers here in Australia from Cars Guide. I didn't expect a response as they get thousands of questions.
A month late I was blown away to get an official response. Lets see what Kia Aus has to say about this!?
This is now a true response from one of our most respected car writers.
Lets see em squirm outa this.

The normally aspirated Kia 2.0 should never ping on regular gas, definitely not to the point where you could actually hear it. Even my 1.6T with it's ridiculously high compression (for a turbo especially) doesn't have any audible ping on regular.
I don't know what your local weather is, but high ambient temperatures can definitely exacerbate the issue, (if it's a timing or mixture problem) I was always able to run substantially more boost and timing in the winter (it gets a lot colder here...lol) with my old Audi UrS6

Hi. Its winter here but its done it for around 12 months in all weather types and temps.
I sent Kia Aus a link to the reply on Cars Guide website. I might send one to Kia Worldwide Head Office too. Im sure they'll like to see it.

To be fair, what are “winter” temps in Australia? I know it’s a big country with a good deal of variance, but I’m not picturing a lot of snow and -20C…lol

Hi mate. Where I am winter is a top temp of 13 Celcius, normal 10 c.
Mornings are typically - 1 to - 4. Takes from dark to sunrise then after, say 11am for the frost to go from the windscreen.

Interesting, colder than I would have pictured…similar to Germany in the winter.
Good to know. 😎

Hi, tommorow, in about 9 hours from now will be -3 where we are. Will be that for several days each morning till a few hrs after sunrise. Top of those about 12 to 13 c.
Where we are is in a cold spot. Just 30 km away they dont get the frosts we do here. Ill show you some pics over the next few days. Thankfully I got a couple of other small heaters to take over when the Split System Reverse Cycle does a defrost cycle. 🥶

What I find really fun about that is I would dare say this is how most people (not from around there) would picture Oz (too many mad max movies probably...lol)

On the other hand this is how a most seem to picture us up here in Canada year round (yes, often even our close neighbours just to the South) PS: it's been +30C here for the last week or so...

At any rate, hope your ping gets resolved...that would be annoying.
