KIA/Hyundai is very stupid in that they have decided to integrate the Navigation system with the Vehicle's Infotainment system. Other car manufacturers, like Mazda, have their Navigation system as a separate entity which only projects into the vehicle's display the Navigation. Their navigation system can be updated separately by bringing the media (Mazda on a SD card) to a PC and update it there. I have sent a complaint email last year to KIA about this and they still have it integrated and now it takes more time to update. I think last year, it took less than 1 hour, if I'm not mistaken.

What has changed to the Navigation? Can you add more than 2 waypoints now? Does it automatically delete expired waypoints?????

1 hr and 17 minutes to update while the engine is running? Will the communist government allow this? Burning fossil fuel for that amount of time? Even truckers now are discouraged to keep their rig running while stopped at truck stops!

And oh, my 32GB USB drive that I used twice for last year’s updates cannot be used anymore! I have buy a 64GB drive. They better put the navigation fixes that I have asked from them on my complaint: more than 2 waypoints, auto delete of expired and/or past waypoints, etc., etc. Also, they better improve the voice command system, by putting more AI like Siri or Google assistant. KIA/Hyundai is trying to re-invent the wheel doin their own integrated navigation.

I messed around with the radio settings and most of the other stuff yesterday for a while and everything seems to be working fine. The screen that shows what it thinks you are saying with voice commands is interesting - you still have to have good reception strength for the voice stuff to work reliably. That is my problem around here, especially around my house neighborhood.

I put my car on a battery tender/charger with car not running but in accessory mode. Then just wait. It says not to do this I think, but it worked fine. Going to try it again for this new update. Anxious to get rid of those stupid radio tubes!

Has anyone done this? Because running the engine idling for 1 hr and 17 min is against the communist Green New Deal. The GND police might arrest me for doing so. Has KIA/Hyundai thought of this? I have a 2022 Hyundai without tge flawed navigation system and it only took 16 minutes to install the April-2022 update. So the biggest bulk of this is the navigation system???

I was able to do it, but finally saw a "files corrupt" message after 45 minutes. I am redoing the USB in case it was me, very weird. All this while the hood is raised in my garage with the charger on the battery. You will not drain the battery this way.

There is a trick, and I had to play a bit. The radio has to be manually turned on and in accessory mode, otherwise it will shut off after a brief period. So make sure the display says "Accessory" and the radio has been turned off and then on while on the tender. Do not just drive the car and shut it off with the radio still on because the radio will shutoff. Kind of tricky thing. Then with the USB in, start the update but hit the option to do it background. This way you will be able to see the progress, it won't blank out the screen if you do it as "immediate". May take longer, but you can tell that it's progressing.

One: I wonder why it's greyed out.
Two: If the car is capable of Updating in an unpowered state why the concern for the battery draining.

All the instructions say to run your car while it's doing the update - unfortunately, it's pretty long now at an hour and a quarter, at least on my car. Others should try it - maybe it's shorter and I'm just slow as usual! Anyway - it's not something I want to mess around with, just want to get it over with. Seems to be working well.

No, you need the battery tender or it will drain the battery. I keep getting a “files
are missing or corrupted” after an hour of validating. I did it this way before,
but saw somebody else say they also got this message.

I could never get it to update with the after shutoff option, which I wonder about too.

Update - Finally got the audio/nav update on my 22 SX Turbo installed. What a PITA...very flakey process.

But using the same 64GB USB that had shown the "Validation Error". I did not recreate the USB. But it does not work when you pick either "Update in Background" or "When the car is shut off" - neither worked. Have to do "Update Now" and the display shows some progress. Took about 1.5hrs, but worked.

Those annoying tubes are gone finally.

All this while on the battery tender, car was not running. Can't afford to waste gas these days.
This is the charger I have. Well worth owning one of these that handles all battery types, especially AGM batteries.
Works great.

Got a bit curious so I looked it up and it turns out they released it two days ago.

Unfortunately, the update size is 35GB with a required hard disk space of 59GB so the 32GB USB I've been using on past updates didn't cut it - I got to get a 64GB one.

The Kia website doesn't really say much of what they changed aside from some navigation features so we'll see what's new when more people update.

I sent a complaint to KIA (https://ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs/) about the increase in USB size and the bad 1 hour plus update that requires the waste of expensive gas. I also asked if they can confirm to me via email if it is okay to update my SXT on Accessory while the battery is on charger/maintainer. Well, they categorize my complaint as a "design concern". Here is the reply:

Well, don't hold your breath for a response! I know a bigger USB drive is required but I assume that means better maps and more poi's etc. Thanks for keeping us up to date with your findings.
