Kia has opened up a new production facility in India at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. Hopefully it will help deal with the huge demand for the Seltos.

HYDERABAD : Kia Motors Corporation on Thursday opened its new Indian production facility at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh (AP). Chief minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the new plant, which is capable of producing up to around 3,00,000 units each year and occupies around 23 million sq ft of space.

Reddy said that the state government will provide all possible help from his side, and added hoped that many other industries would also set-up shop in AP in the coming days. The chief minister, during his address at the inauguration, said that Kia Motors Corporation will employ 11,000 people directly and another 7,000 indirectly once its plant is fully developed.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Bongkil Shin, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India, Han-Woo Park, president and CEO of Kia Motors Corporation, Kookhyun Shim, managing director and CEO of Kia Motors India, among others. The new plant is equipped with more than 450 robots, which will help automate the press, body and paint shops during the assembling of cars.

The first model manufactured by Kia Motors India (KMI) was the new Seltos compact SUV, which was launched in August in India. The car’s launch was met with strong sales, and a total of 40,640 units have been sold as of November. A press release from KMI stated that the global South-Korean automobile company will also expand its models in the days to come.

“Kia will commence production of its premium MPV model at KMI in early 2020. The brand also plans to introduce a new sub-compact SUV model to the market later that year, strengthening its utility vehicle image in India," stated the release. The Kia Seltos car started sales with an introductory price from Rs.9.69 lakh onwards, with three variants: 1.5 petrol, 1.5 diesel, and 1.4 turbo petrol, mated with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Yes they definitely need to try to keep up with heavy demand.

Won't effect the US though since I think we will be getting them from Korea.
Yeah I think we're getting them from Korea, hopefully there's no setbacks from the Korean plant. I'm not sure what the demand has been like for the Seltos in South Korea.

I forgot about Georgia. Telluride is being built there now so I am wondering if Seltos will be built there too. Probably be easier to rely on production here than places like India that can't keep up with the demand there.
There was a story about the Seltos crash test cars being assembled there. Maybe that is a clue to full production.

I doubt it as that plant is already running at capacity, as they also built the Sorento and Optima there and they had to move the production of Santa Fe from that plant to make more capacity for the Telluride which seems to be having problems meeting demand.

Interesting article on how Kia India will not give up plant capacity to Hyundai. Kia has tons of unused capacity so maybe we will see cars from India in the US
not really, as they have plans to bring many new models to the India plant over the next year, they have to build up production in stages to reach the capacity of the plant.

That might be tricky because they make a lot of diesel Seltos' in India and we're not getting those ones over here.

This is pretty good timing, apparently the Seltos has been exported to "40 countries from India and the company has already dispatched 6341 units in December 2019 to the overseas market."

Unfortunately there's no indication on which countries those are though.

From what I read it was all Asian countries and the US was not expected to get those. (That article is on another thread. )

Ah, just read the article and it said just right hand drive markets, so not North America.
