Kia continues to expand the Seltos worldwide with its debut in South Africa happening later this month.

From Wheels24:

Kia's new Seltos compact SUV will make its local debut later this month.

Featuring distinctive design details and build quality, it brings a different option for buyers in the ever-growing SUV segment.

A local attraction
"Seltos is a truly exciting new addition to the KIA line-up in South Africa," says Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa.

"As South Africa’s love affair with SUVs continues to grow, we are very excited that we can now offer another progressive, high quality KIA model in a very competitive segment," Scott added.

It will be produced in Korea and India, with South African models built and distributed by the latter. The Seltos will go on sale later this month with more information regarding specs and pricing to be released closer to the sale date.

Record breaker
It's introduction to the Indian market proved overly fruitful breaking multiple records in India, securing record first-day pre-bookings of 6,046 units and 31,786 pre-bookings in total. In addition, during its first 10 days on sale, KIA Motors India clocked up a record 6,200 sales.

The attraction has made its way over to SA with more than 3 000 people signing up to be the first to know about the SUV.

They introduced the pricing for the South African models:

The base Seltos EX, which is priced from R353 995, employs the Korean brand’s naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine, delivering 90 kW and 151 N.m to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Upgrading to an automatic transmission with the same number of cogs pushes the price to R371 995.

Standard features on these EX models include LED daytime running lights, automatic headlamps, 16-inch alloys, six airbags, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, cruise control, eight-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality) and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

The XE+ variant, meanwhile, uses the same powerplant (offered in automatic guise only) but gains a bit of extra standard equipment, including 17-inch alloys, hill-start assist and leather upholstery. This mid-table derivative is priced from R389 995.

And the flagship Seltos GT-Line? Well, priced from R444 995 this model employs a turbocharged 1,4-litre petrol engine offering 103 kW and 242 N.m to the front axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's enough, says Kia, for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in around 9,7 seconds and a top speed of 189 km/h.
