I know this is an old topic but wanted to clarify that I have the "S" model and it does NOT have the PUSH BUTTON START, or the PROXIMITY KEY FOB, nor does it have the BUTTON on the outside door handle. I had all these features on my previous Challenger & outside door handle button was a great option but they also allowed the lock button inside the car to work.

Unfortunately, Kia really screwed up on disabling the inside door lock button after parking your car. Every morning, I get to work & exit my car carrying my coffee, breakfast tacos, & Laptop. Every freaking day, have to walk to the front of the car, set down my coffee, just to pull out my keys and lock the door. If it as only once in a blue moon it would be fine, but I find myself always carrying something out of the are & always fumbling for the key fob.

Anyone ever found a work-around?
Ok I just looked up the spec of the S model and I would half to agree in your case with the s model that is screwed up.

Interesting. I didn’t read through everything in the post since the door locks work to my satisfaction and notice no difference from any other modern car we’ve owned. That and I got a bit confused so couldn’t understand the issue.
There are settings, though, that can be changed to your preference such as having only the drivers side door unlock/lock or all 4 at first press. I always set it at all.
If the locks work differently than other cars we haven’t noticed.

Someone asked for images of my Seltos with NO push button start & no outside door handle “lock” button. Images attached.

Summary: Park car, as you exit vehicle, lock button on door is disabled, only way to lock doors is button on keychain. Very difficult when you are carrying stuff & cannot be locked until you shut the door. Requires you to set your stuff on the hood of the car so you can lock the door and go on.

No worries, just wanted to share the information, as it seems most people with the "Higher end" version of Seltos don't have that issue, as they most likely have push button start & lock button outside the door.

Tomorrow, I am installing Lumbar Support and a Roof mount LED light. Since I'll be messing with the fuse box, if I have time, I'll see if there's a workaround for those who have my same door lock issue. Also, I might adventure to check out the "Auto Stop/Start Engine" button, to see if it can be permanently set to "disabled" by default. Although it's good for fuel economy, I am told it's not good for your Starter but also really only because it's annoying. My thought would be to have it disabled by default and by pushing the button it turns it on. Basically the opposite of what it does today. Will see....

Blake- I have the same model seltos as you and the exact same complaint. I took my car to the dealership where I bought it last week and they were just as perplexed as I was why the door lock button wouldn't work. They initially told me bc the car is so new they haven't worked out all the kinks. Then they messed around with trying to get it to lock (just as I did myself before bringing it in) and realized that it doesn't work as we would like it to. They then called some kia specialist and they said it's a safety feature. To me, it's a pretty stupid safety feature. They said "sorry, you have to use the key fob the lock your doors...." 🙄 I hope they do come up with a work around bc like most everyone else, I have tons of crap in my hands for work and now I have to make sure I keep my keys in my hand, shut the door and try to juggle everything without dropping just to lock the dang doors. Super annoying.

Exactly! I have been doing a ton of modifications on my car and will eventually see if I can figure out a work around of some sort. I am sure there has to be a trick with the wiring. The lock button does work it certain circumstances. For example, I can unlock/lock it while driving with the button but only when at a very low speed. When I drop my child off at school in the morning and push the unlock button multiple times (before I stop), it immediately locks itself back but once I am under 3 MPH or so, the button does stay unlocked or locked if I choose. Ironic that it won't let me unlock it when I want too or lock it when I want too...LOL.

Working with installing Fog Lights and Rocker Switches, I am beginning to think it's some sort of "kill switch" that disables power to the button when we turn off the car but mysterious that it can still lock with the remote. I actually have 2 remote Key Fobs (factory and factory installed "Remote Start" button remote). Really dumb that I have 2 remotes but that's what you get with KIA "Factory add-on Remote Start" which is different than EX and SX models which only have 1 total remote. Anywho, both remotes lock the door and if I have the car started from Remote Start and try to enter the car, only that remote unlocks the door while car is still running.

My question, is what happens when the remote battery dies on the remote, you cannot lock your door? If you look under your door handles (Driver Side only) there is a small black rubber square pieces that pushes in, I believe it's so you can pop off that small cap with a screw driver and probably has a key hole for your actual key to lock/unlock door. I tried to do it one time and slipped and left a small scratch on the handle, keep forgetting to try again.....

So I gather from information you have provided that with your model you can't disable the auto lock and auto unlock that is available in the SX 4-64 in manual

I JUST purchased a 2021 Seltos S. Love it! One problem. I turn off vehicle, exit car, the car will not lock using the inside door lock / unlock switch. Only the FOB will lock the car. Very bizarre. While driving, the lock unlock switch inside car works fine. Turn car off and exit car only the FOB can lock the car. No fobs are inside car, just one in my hand. Very weird. Anyone know of this issue? Have a service appointment scheduled was just wondering if anyone knows this to be a thing for the Seltos.

Thanks!
I have the same issue. Will ask dealer at my 1st oil change

Correct, it's designed to prevent you leaving key fob in car.
My 2010 Prius wouldn't let you lock your keys in. If you shut the door in the locked position, they wouldn't lock and the car would beeped letting you know your keys were inside. Kia got this one wrong imo.

So your saying the Prius would know the keys were outside and allow the doors to lock

Hi Johnny! I found a solution after 2 weeks of having my new Kia Seltos 2021! Hopefully this will help you after 7 months. Here it is:

on the wheel, there will be a button on the right top side of the wheel, that looks like a paper. Tap that button and on the screen on top of the wheel, options like “doors”, “tires”, etc will appear. You will choose the “Doors” option and the option of “automatically unlocked” will appear! Now you can put it to your liking!(I put to never unlock)

hope this helps!

I just purchased a 2021 Seltos and noticed this feature as well. I usually lock my car by using the door since the fob is really loud, but was perplexed that I couldn’t in this car. Anyone know if this feature can be disabled at all?
Hi there, you probably know this by now, but you can turn off the horn when you lock your car, it is in your settings.

Well, I can see that KIA design cars for IDIOTs. I, too, hate that I can’t lock the doorwith the inside lock button after you open the door. Lucky me, I have the SX which has the lock/unlock switch on the outside door handle. I, too, hate that once you shift to Park after you stop, the doors will unlock. KIA designed this for carjackers! Not all of us live in gated communities!

Those of you who lock/unlock doors with the key fob - watch out for RF Code grabbers!
