You could think that but you'd be wrong.
You may have the feature turned off in menus.

Ah. This is interesting SHCS. It is another example of the difference between the requirements of different countries, and how the cars are set up accordingly, and even the manual as well.

Prompted by your post above, I wondered if I was imagimning things. But no, our cars here in Aus, no doubt because seatbelt wearing is mandatory here in every state - presumably not the case in the US - are set up so it takes the weight of a passenger or other significant weight to trigger the rear seatbelt warning light - much like for the two front seats. I actually tried getting in and out and fasterning the belt and undoing it. Takes no notice of door openings, but definitely if buckled or not.

Also that page photo you put up above from your manual is not in ours. Only detailed explanations about how the warnings will work if the belt is not fastened within such and such a time, and over such and such a speed. No real surprise re the US, but I did think Canada would have mandated belts by now. Maybe you have, but not in all states - or you are lumped in with the US in terms of set-up..? Clearly these forums can be quite illuminating..?

The thing I hate about the seatbelt warning in these things (at least this CDN model) is if you unbuckle before coming to a full stop (my wife has done this as we pull up to the door at her work), the damn seatbelt warning will go off continuously, even after the vehicle is in park and she’s exited. Absolutely terrible setup…you have to cycle the ignition to shut it up. Would it have been so hard for it to cancel as soon as park is selected?? Dammit Kia!

Hmmmm, yet another difference then. Here if someone unbuckles while on the move the warning light flashes but it only gongs if speed over 20kph - under that it does not sound. It seems linked to the same sensor that mutes music sound when slow-speed manoeuvring maybe..?

Both manuals for the Australian model years 22 and 23 (different manuals) have the same explaination for Rear Occupancy Alert of utilizing door sensor history. What I did find interesting was for Model year 22 it also notes 'if equipped' suggesting not all models have it.

Was 2022 the first year for Seltos in the AU?

No. We got them very soon after Korea. Mine is a late 2019 model. They tend to refer to it as the 2020 model, but it is stamped Oct 2019. I got one of the first here in Australia. My theory regarding what appears to be quite a few differences with later models, is that this was maybe caused by the problems the pandemic caused, with shortages of a lot of the electronic stuff like chips, etc, so certain functions had to be adapted - not always in a positive way - because computers control so much of these functions.

Also, when I heard about the number of folk also experiencing real mechanical issues as well, like the transmission thrust rod failures in the DCTs in the turbo models, and piston ring failures in the 2L non-turbo motors, etc, I also began to wonder if Covid also impacted even some mechanical parts production..? Because here in Australia there has been very little in the way of anything negative regarding reliability or frank failures until models made after late 2020. It looks like things are getting back on track now with the release of the 2023 models.

I wish I had known that I could only heat my car up for 10 minutes at a time with remote start. Not a fan of having to remember to push it at least one more time.

Honestly I still probably would have bought it though. I fell in love with the Neptune Blue SX at first sight. A few days ago, I saw a starbright yellow with a black roof Seltos for the first time. It was going the opposite direction from me on the highway so it was a quick look.

It looked absolutely amazing in person. This may sound crazy but I think it’s the best looking car on the road.🤷‍♂️

Three things...

- Throttle response blows. I realize this is to improve economy, but how about leaving that choice to me? I usually drive to save fuel, but sometimes I really need to stomp on it.

- Buggy electronics. Seatbelt warning doesn't shut up in park. Auto defogger kicks on after I shut it off. ISG shuts off immediately at a stop - even when moving from Drive to Park. FM radio creates its own interference, resulting in distorted weak signals. Infotainment unit slow to react. Mileage indicator is on crack.

- Normal driving is great, but sudden road imperfections really kick into the cabin. New tires helped a bit. Adding 200 pounds in the back completely smoothed it out. If only the suspension dampening was just a little better...

This reminds me, anybody else's headlight automatically turn-on in the slightest shadow?! Doing 70mph and go under a regular 4 lane bridge. Headlights turn on.... then immediately turn off after about 2 seconds. I'm in shadow literally 1 second. Happens about 40% of the time. So if I'm on the highway an hour, probably happens 3-4 times.

They do tend to be a littel oversensitive to light changes. Simply turn off the lights from the auto position and it should not happen. I only select auto lights when conditions are getting a bit dim in a general sense, so that flicking on and off does not happen at other times. However it does rather souns like Bloo has a whole set of dodgy sensors. Which once again raises my suspicions about some covid related dodgy quality control at the time of manufacture, as everytjhing functions perfectly in my 2019 model, and those from 2023 also appear less commonly reporting these issues. It does seem mostly related to the late 20s to 22 models that are affected, and we know many electronic components were is short supply back then. The lack of two key fobs for each new car being an example. Only just recovering, and some are still waiting for their second fob.

Fun fact about 2022 and up (here in Canada anyways)…it doesn’t matter what position you have your headlight switch in…the lights will turn fully on automatically when it is dark enough to trip the sensor. (Even in the full “off” selection)
They will also turn off when you shut the car off, even if you have the “on” position selected.
Canada has (or has pending) legislation to combat “ghost” drivers…all those smart people who drive around with just their DRL’s on at night which means no taillights.
Discovered this accidentally when I had left the switch off and noticed the lights came on when I drove out.
I don’t know if this applies to other markets, but it is a good safety feature, so I would think so…

Interesting. Certainly not the case with mine here in Aus. They might have sneaked this feature in in the latest models, I'm not sure.

Doesn't work on my 2023 SX in the States. I wish.

That the windshield would ice up so bad and that it didn't have heated side mirrors.
What model do you have?
My SX has heated side mirrors and I’ve had no issues with windshield icing, even at -40
Make sure you don’t have recirculating air selected or yeah, it’ll cause icing on all windows in the winter.
