With a newly installed Class 3 hitch and new (to us) tent trailer, we're ready to take on the campgrounds of Atlantic Canada!

Awesome! Always wanted to see a Seltos actually pull a light weight trailer! How does it drive/brake, etc.?
Hah, I was pretty curious myself. To be honest, I haven't really tested the limits as I changed my driving habits once I hitched up the trailer. Accelerating more gradually, keeping max speed to ~100, and giving myself a lot more time to brake has gone a long way toward not accidentally finding any limits that I didn't know existed. That said, here are my experiences so far.

For sure it isn't as peppy as usual. It took me too long to realize that changing drive mode to normal or sport really increased performance. Eco mode, which I usually default to, suppresses the high revs that are really needed to accelerate with the extra load. It's my (amateur) understanding that favouring moderately higher revs on slopes (versus grinding up in high gear) will reduce strain on the transmission, and I'm more worried about wear on the transmission than the engine (especially whereas the car only displays engine temp and not transmission temp).

As far as braking, I tested the rapid braking on some country roads without actually engaging ABS, I found that the car braked very similarly as without the trailer. No doubt the stopping distance is increased, but with only 1400 lbs of extra load, it hasn't changed things to any extreme.

I'm taking the duo out for a longer drive this weekend for some Tksgiving weekend exploring and am looking forward to more experience trailering. It's a whole new world! haha
