My wife just took delivery of a 23 Seltos before I go to the dealer and look stupid I figured I would ask the question here, when door is closed you can lock the doors via the button on the door panel when exiting the vehicle with door open I push the lock button but nothing happens, using the fob the door will lock. Is this normal?

Yeah. That's only normal, so you can't just slam-lock the door and lock yourself out - as so many used to do in the bad old days doing just that. It also shrieks at you if you try the door handle button lock system if the key fob is still inside instead of on you. The doors also lock on start-up, the default being to unlock when you turn the engine off. You can change this to unlock when you select Park, but with so many car hijackings these days, I returned to the default of unlocking on turn-off. I recommend you do the same.

Yeah it’s definitely normal…I’m actually a little annoyed with it tbh…I used to be able to leave my 2019 Cherokee running and get out and lock the door (as long as I had the fob in my pocket), which you can’t do with the Kia. Sometimes up here in the great white north (as you well know) we often need to leave things running a little longer than the 10 minutes that remote start provides.

That is the main reason I had an aftermarket remote start installed with a 25 min run time. The 10 min window in the Tucson I traded in sucked.

Time to go aftermarket. :)
Just had a Compustar system with the T13 remote installed in mine. The app works more consistently, the fob works from 20x further away, adjustable run time, and gives me visual confirmation of everything. And the T13 provides proximity locking and unlocking (adjustable too). So you don't even need to push the button on the door handle. Just walk up and it unlocks.

Do you use your garage door opener? They're far more likely to steal that.
In either case, the transmission period being microseconds only, it takes a very sophisticated crim, armed with special equipment, and to be lurking nearby, to record the wireless code. So, as long as no such person is nearby, I don't think that this issue is worth losing sleep over. Marginally more likely in a carpark situation, where using the door handle button in preference does make sense. That's when leaving the car. When heading towards it not much of a risk, and sometimes it helps in finding exactly where the car is. Yeah, I nearly lost my car in a multi-storey carpark one time... 😬

Yes, this is normal behavior for the 2023 Kia Seltos. The door lock button on the door panel is designed to work only when the door is closed. This is a safety feature to prevent accidental locking of the doors while the driver or passengers are still inside the car. When the door is open, the system assumes that someone is still in the car and will not allow the doors to be locked using the button on the door panel.
Locksmith in Holloway affirms that using the key fob to lock the doors is the recommended method when the door is open and you are exiting the vehicle. This will ensure that all doors are securely locked and the vehicle is safe.

The doors won't lock with the FOB unless they are all closed...if you try with any of the doors open, the vehicle will just beep a long tone at you.
