Rear Knock

Hi all. Have had some noises I fixed but one has kept annoying me. A slight knock noise as I go over speed bumps, from the rear, and when going slow over uneven ground. At first I thought suspension but had it checked. All checked out ok but still there. Im almost convinced its the rear left side air pressure relief flap. Ill get it looked at next service in 8 weeks time. I reckon its weakly mounted and knocks about as when I have my rear hatch open then open then close the rear left passenger door the relief flap makes the exact knock noise I hear, I know they make a noise typically closing doors, but this is the exact same noise, so when driving instead of it sitting quietly I believe it moves. Another reason I think its not working properly or mounted properly (something wrong with it) when I have my drivers side window half down, our drive side is on the right, and floor it the cabin at times fills with exhaust fumes. The window wound half down I believe creates a vaccumm that draws in the exhaust through the not properly sealing air relief flap.
Anyone else get the exhaust fume smell doing that at times like mine?

I noticed a similar knocking sound from the rear in my 22'. My wife drives it daily and doesn't notice it and I only drive it on the weekend and I do hear it. It's very subtle. I have yet to crawl under and take a look and look under the cargo area to see if its the spare tire that's loose so i could be that.
Have both of you own the SX model? If so the Cargo cover makes knocking sounds and I could have swear it was coming from the wheels, suspension or undercarriage. I removed the cover and the "knocking" disappeared. Since then, I don't use it anymore, it's just an annoyance.
Also had a similar noise going over bumps, discovered it was the rear seat belts. So it happens when i put the seats down, then back up, make sure seat belts are not in the way.
had it re-occur 3 times, as I keep forgetting.
I tried everything imaginable. Took out the cargo cover, layed seats down, conected the seat belts, took out the spare, adjusted the hatch stops, fitted foam everywhere, took out the spare wheel well cover.
The fact I get exhaust fumes entering, to me, indicates a air pressure relief flap has an issue.
One for sure does, it may or may not be the cause of the knock. The knock is from the rear left, if I drive on a dirt track with the left side leaning left its more pronounced, if I swap track sides so the right is leaning it barely noticeable.
Mine is just the base model the S.
Yep. Wasn't that mine!?..
This new one is new, air relief flap..
Im hating this car bad!

Dead Wrong NumbNuts! See my response to 'Dougt' in another posting, about placing tape over the Rear Seat latch bar. The rear seat tend to knock back and forth on the seat latch bar.

Perhaps a simpler fix for the above, rather than having to regularly replace your gorilla tape on the latch bar, would be to do what I do anyway - mainly to further reduce noise coming in from the trunk, (boot in Antipodes), even though I had no knock/rattle issue.

That is to merely place the rear seat backs in the reclined position, by lifting the lock and pushing back, rather than pulling forwards as one would to lower the seatbacks. This presses the seatbacks agains the leading edge of the cargo cover and I suspect would solve both issues. It's a more natural and comfortable position for rear seat passengers anyway.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I'll rather stick to the tape. It's not like I'll replacing the tape often.

Yes, you could, but not sure why you wouldn't at least try this move, as it takes about 2 seconds a side to do it. Where's the downside to leaving the rear seatbacks in the slightly reclined position all the time..? As I said, it's the more natural and comfortable angle for anyone who rides in the back seat anyway, and it helps further reduce road noise from the cargo area, which is quite noticable if the car is driven with the cargo cover removed for some reason.
