Rear view mirror

Hi,

i bought a 2021 Kia Seltos AWD last May. I’m happy with it, except for the fact that the lever on the standard rear view mirror that toggles from day/night vision is almost impossible to operate with one hand. It’s far too rigid and I feel I’ll snap the mirror off of the windshield before I could adjust the mirror. Even using two hands is a challenge but toggling from day to night vision is something you’d do while driving.

my dealer says that’s a known defect and that all Seltos mirrors have that problem and refuses to address the problem. I don’t believe a word of what he’s saying.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

thx,
bob

I haven't approached the dealer but I did notice the extra effort needed to switch the mirror from day to night mode. I put it down to the plastic being really cold at the time. The other thing I noticed was the length of the 'throw' needed to make the change. My Kia Rondo wasn't nearly as stiff and it was an easy switch, pushing forward with my thumb and pulling back with my index finger. Didn't need to take my eyes of the road to make the change, either.

I swapped out the one on my S model for the upgraded auto dimming one. It doesn’t look like the one in the ads or brochures but it works. It is OEM. No more flipping the stock one back and forth. Works great

Did you do the swap yourself of at the dealer?

I did the swap myself. Not very hard. It comes with the wire harness and everything but I’m a little electrical and mechanical inclined so I tied into the power and switched power wire from the overhead console and made a ground connection.
Would you be able/willing to link to the mirror you used? Considering it as I'm missing mine from my last vehicle. Does the one you chose have the homelink buttons for garage door?
I got it off eBay from a Kia dealer on the east coast. I’ll look for the link to him. Yes it has 3 buttons for the garage door and they are on the bottom left hand side. For a pic online if you want try looking at a Kia stinger and maybe this matches that. Remember none of the pics online are accurate

It’s a little hard to see but the 3 buttons stick down just a little from the bottom of the mirror. NO COMPASS available on this mirror. This is the OEM mirror. The red and yellow wires can be tapped for power (red) and switched power (yellow)

Can’t find the eBay link. Hm. I think the dealer name was Cherry Hill Kia

Thank you very much for the images. Guess I'm ordering a mirror and figuring out how to remove my roof console.
It’s not very hard but it’s in there good. Like 6 things holding it up. 2 metal clips on the sides and 2 snap buttons on the windshield end and 2 plastic guides on the other end. After taking it off a couple times the back 2 plastic guides broke off so it hangs a little from the headliner. I’ll fix it someday. I just screwed a flat nosed screw into the small square hole up there with the ground wire wrapped around it. You can also follow the directions and run all the wires to the fuse panel and add a tap a fuse for the power and switched power but it’s easier to just go to the console harness that’s up there. Good luck
