Found out today you can toss your hiking pack into the trunk, close it, and all the doors and hatch lock again.
Thank goodness I had my phone in my pocket.

My 2018 Soul, if you had a fob anywhere in the vehicle, the doors would unlock and you physically couldn't lock the keys in it.

are you talking about a smart key?

You should fill out your drives and location info in account settings so your specific model will show below your logon name. (see mine)

Yup. Smart key fob.
thanks for filling out the info, one of my daughters lives in Calgary.

I have the smart key in my Soul, and yes even in the underfloor storage I couldn't leave my spare key in it without wrapping it in foil or removing the battery or order to lock the doors with the FOB inside.
Keep in mind the Seltos is a 10" longer vehicle than the Soul so maybe the sensor range doesn't reach all the way to the trunk area. You will have experiment to see how far, unless it indicates the range in the owners manual.

Ya I'll have to test it now that I'm at home with my spare key. Haha. Scared the crap outta me for a minute until I realized I am now able to unlock it with the phone app.

The people across from me with their new Infinity were laughing until I unlocked it with my phone. She looks at him and goes "Umm ours doesn't do that..." 🤣😂

OK, accidentally tested it today at the grocery store. Left key fob in the back and closed the rear hatch. Pushed the button on the driver door but didn't hear the tone that the key fob was in the car. Tested it purposely when I got home and left key fob in back closed all doors and tried to lock it - Alarm went off telling me key was inside. Gonna try locking first with key fob in pocket, lock doors, open rear hatch, put key fob in back and then close it. Let y'all know what happens!

Ya that's how it happened for me. Doors all locked. Walked up to the back, tossed everything in and closed the hatch.

Anytime your key is in a bag or purse, it is at risk of not being detected by the antenna on the vehicle. I seen it happen before when keys were in briefcases, purses, backpacks, or boxes. The container blocks enough RF to prevent the key from being detected. All of this stuff has limitations. They general will detect a bare key. A key plus signal blocking materials isn't guaranteed to be detected.
