I was trying to find the release from Kia stating that a slight hesitation and shudder was normal but, for the life of me I can't come across it.
You won't, dry sump DCT are designed to do that to reduce over heating and extreme wear. You actually get use to it...and learn how to respond to it.

I went in last Friday for a computer update. They had called me to offer me my free oil change, and i told them i only use full synthetic, and i had already done the first oil change.
I then asked them about a computer update that was offered in the US i believe, that deals with the hesitations when taking off. She said, let me look, and low and behold, it was available.
I have noticed a big difference right off the bat, its shifting a little differently in sport mode, not staying at 3000 rpm, but dropping to around 2600 rpm. Overall an improvement for sure. Shifting is much smoother.

Sorry off topic, what oil filter do you use.

I’m totally surprised. I don’t have this behaviour at all. I leave it in Smart mode. Maybe it’s my driving style having owned dual clutch before. Honestly it feels pretty much like a tc transmission only shifts much quicker.
And holds the RPM higher in sport mode , which lowers fuel mileage I noticed. Smart more the best mode, I which to S if in a rush. LOL

For an SUV its size, even if you drive constantly in sport mode, the gas mileage always amazes me.

Has anyone experience a hesitation when starting off slow? I sometimes get this and then it lurches forward
Hi, Theres one thing I know for sure that does this. If you happen to be like me and tend to drive with both feet especially at take off, this can easily occur. A regular auto trans will tolerate this style, but not the DCT.
Try this....while stopped, keep your left foot on the brake. Dont release the brake until youve started pushing down on the accellerator. The car initially responds very sluggishly and crawls ahead. As you give it more gas (and release the foot brake) the car starts to come right and normal performance returns. Ive found the sluggish period can be up to 3 secs, which can make you a sitting duck as youre now trying to crawl thru an intersection. Its likely you'll get a clunk and/or lurch when the transmission returns to normal performance.
The fix: Problem disappeared when I learned how to drive a DCT.

Theres a few vidoes on YouTube I recommend all DCT drivers to watch.
Start with this one:
.

Cheers

I don’t experience any of this lag/hesitation or lurching. I get very smooth gear transitions at low speeds and more than enough power to get up and go when at a complete stop. I find it very responsive and I am more of a slightly aggressive driver than not I would say. Maybe I am just lucky.

However, sometimes I will experience the hesitation and sluggish gear changes for a brief period if I don’t properly warm up my engine for a minute or so upon a cold start..

I drive all the time in Smart mode.
